Drivie — Support
Need help or have a question about Drivie? Send a message using the form below. Please mention your device (e.g. iPhone model or Android device) and your Homey type (Homey Pro or Homey Cloud) so I can help you faster.
Tip: if your Homey has the Drivie Companion app installed, the fastest way to reach me is actually from there — open the Companion's settings on your Homey and use "Send with diagnostics". It automatically attaches the technical logs I'd otherwise have to ask you for, so trip and connection issues in particular can often be solved in one reply instead of a back-and-forth. That flow can't email you back directly, so still use the form below if you need an answer.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why do widgets, Live Activities, or a car trip's start/end sometimes update late — or not at all?
-
The Home Screen widget, the Lock Screen/CarPlay Live Activity, and detecting when a car trip starts or ends all depend on a background notification being delivered to your phone at the right moment. Apple and Google — not Drivie — decide, at the operating-system level, when your phone actually processes that notification: usually it's within seconds, but the system can delay it by several minutes, or skip it entirely to save battery, especially once your phone has been sitting still for a while (e.g. right after you park).
This is normal iOS/Android behaviour, not something any app can force. A widget or Live Activity that looks a little out of date corrects itself the next time your phone processes an update — opening Drivie also forces an immediate refresh. A car trip's end time is always backdated to when the car actually disconnected, even if your phone only noticed later, so your ride log stays accurate even when the notification was delayed. A trip's start is normally near-instant (see below), but it's still subject to the same iOS/Android scheduling — that's why it's never guaranteed to be truly real-time either.
- What do I need to use Drivie?
- A Homey (Homey Pro or Homey Cloud) and your existing Homey account. You log in to the app with that account.
- How do the trip and location triggers work?
- Install the free Drivie Companion app on your Homey (via the Homey App Store). Once set up, your flows can react to starting a drive, or arriving at and leaving a location.
- Do Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work?
- Yes. Drivie is an approved CarPlay app on iOS and an Android Auto app (IOT category) on Android — connect your phone to your car and your favourite devices, flows and moods appear on the car screen, with a confirmation prompt before anything risky (locks, garage doors, the alarm). On iOS there's also a Home Screen/StandBy widget you can add to CarPlay. See the dedicated CarPlay and Android Auto sections below if something isn't working as expected.
- My location flows (arrive/leave) are not triggering. How do I fix this?
-
First, ensure the Drivie Companion app is installed on your Homey and your phone is configured there.
iOS: Go to the Settings app > Drivie. Ensure Location is set to 'Always'. Without 'Always', iOS won't wake the app in the background when crossing a geofence. Also check that 'Background App Refresh' is enabled.
Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Drivie > Permissions. Ensure Location access is set to 'Allow all the time'. Then go to Settings > Apps > Drivie > Battery and select 'Unrestricted'. Otherwise, Android might kill the background process to save battery, causing missed triggers.
- My trip isn't starting when I get in the car.
-
Drivie detects car trips natively through your car's projection system (Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) — it does not use GPS or Bluetooth.
iOS: A trip starts the moment your iPhone connects to CarPlay (wired or wireless). Make sure your phone is actually starting a CarPlay session on your dashboard screen. If you've granted Motion & Fitness access (Settings app > Drivie > Permissions), Drivie also uses that as a backup signal, so a trip can still be caught even if CarPlay never announces the connection at all — for example driving off with the radio off and without opening Drivie on the dashboard screen — this never needs the app to be open.
Android: A trip starts when your phone connects to Android Auto. Check that Android Auto is active on your car's display.
If the car screen is active but Drivie doesn't register the trip, try opening the Drivie app on your phone once so it can initialize its car connection monitor.
- My trip ended much later than it actually did (or the car still shows "connected" after I parked).
-
Trip start is normally near-instant, since connecting to CarPlay/Android Auto is something the phone notices immediately — see above for the rarer case where that connection itself is missed or delayed and the Motion & Fitness backup signal has to catch it instead. Trip end is different: once you park and the phone stops moving, iOS and Android are free to put Drivie's background process to sleep — that's the same operating-system behaviour explained at the top of this page — so the disconnect is sometimes only noticed several minutes later, whenever your phone next wakes the app up.
The end time itself is always corrected to the moment the car actually disconnected, not to the moment it was noticed, so your ride log and any Homey flows that read the trip's duration stay accurate. It's only the notification to your Homey that can lag — the car will show "connected" a little longer than it should, then catch up.
- Where is my data stored?
- Drivie does not collect personal data and shares nothing with third parties. See the privacy & legal page for details.
- Why does Drivie ask me to confirm before locking/unlocking, or opening the garage, from the car?
- For your safety, Drivie always shows a confirmation prompt before controlling a lock, garage door or the alarm — on both CarPlay and Android Auto. This is intentional and can't be turned off.
CarPlay
- Drivie doesn't appear as an app in CarPlay.
-
Make sure your iPhone is actually connected to CarPlay (cable or wireless) and that your car supports it.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay > [your car] and check that Drivie is turned on — cars can hide individual apps from the CarPlay screen.
Open Drivie on your iPhone at least once before connecting, so it can load your Homey and your favourites.
- CarPlay shows "Subscription required", or the tabs are empty.
-
"Subscription required": open Drivie on your iPhone and make sure you have an active subscription — this can't be set up from the car screen.
Empty tabs / "No favourites yet": open Drivie on your iPhone and choose which devices, flows and moods should appear in each CarPlay tab. Only a handful per tab are shown by design, to keep the car screen quick to scan while driving.
- I can't find the Drivie widget on my CarPlay Home Screen.
-
Unlike the CarPlay app itself, widgets aren't added automatically. On your car's CarPlay Home Screen, tap Customize (or press and hold, depending on your car), then add the Drivie widget — the same way you'd add a widget to your iPhone's Home Screen or Lock Screen.
The widget shows the location you last arrived at, and the status of any devices you've chosen to show for that location. It stays empty until you've set that up for a location in Drivie's Live Activity settings.
- The buttons on the CarPlay widget or the status card don't do anything.
- This is expected, not a bug — Apple doesn't allow interactive buttons on CarPlay widgets or Live Activities, only informational status. To actually control something from your car, use the full Drivie app in CarPlay's app grid instead.
- The information on my CarPlay screen looks out of date.
- Usually this is the notification-delivery timing explained at the top of this page — it corrects itself shortly, or immediately if you open Drivie on your iPhone. If it stays wrong for a while, check that your Homey is online and your iPhone has an internet or mobile-data connection; if Drivie can't reach your Homey at all, it shows the last known status instead of nothing.
Android Auto
- Drivie doesn't appear in Android Auto.
-
Make sure the Android Auto app itself is up to date (via Google Play), your phone is connected to your car (cable or wireless), and Android Auto is already set up for that car.
Smart-home apps like Drivie show up in Android Auto's app launcher rather than as a dashboard tile — check there first if you don't see it right away.
If you just installed or updated Drivie, disconnecting and reconnecting (or restarting Android Auto) sometimes helps it register.
- Android Auto shows "Log in on your phone" or "No favourites yet".
-
"Log in on your phone": open Drivie on your phone, sign in, then reconnect to your car.
"No favourites yet": open Drivie on your phone and choose which devices, flows and moods should show up in the car.
- Android Auto shows "Subscription required".
- Open Drivie on your phone and check that you have an active subscription — this can't be set up from the car screen.
- I only see simple on/off buttons in the car, not full control.
- While driving, Android Auto (and CarPlay) intentionally limit you to quick, low-distraction actions — turning something on/off, picking a mood, or a confirmed action for locks, alarms and garage doors. This follows Google's and Apple's own guidelines for reducing driver distraction. For fine adjustments, use the Drivie app on your phone.

- Usually this is the notification-delivery timing explained at the top of this page — it corrects itself shortly, or immediately if you open Drivie on your phone. If it stays wrong for a while, check that your Homey and phone are both online; if Drivie can't reach your Homey at all, it shows the last known status instead of nothing.
